WHY SHE IS AMAZING: Chef Aretah is a first-generation Nigerian American. While a student at The University of Delaware, Aretah balanced her studies as a Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management major while also being a member of the Track & Field team. She competed in shot put and hammer throw, and being a resident advisor in the dorms. Ultimately, all these things helped paved the way for her to succeed when she pivoted upon graduation to attend culinary school. Aretah has been very lucky that I chose to work in restaurants that have a reputation for people who work at the highest level. She is currently a sous chef at Gramercy Tavern, one of America’s most beloved restaurant and the winner of nine James Beard Awards.
