LEZLI LEVENE HARVELL Creator + Curator
EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION: Spelman College, Rutger's School of Dental Medicine, Bronx-Lebanon Hospital/Albert Einstein School of Medicine
WHY SHE IS AMAZING: Lezli Levene Harvell grew up in Westchester County, NY is a first-generation Jamaican-American and a dual citizen of the United States and Jamaica. In addition to being a board-certified pediatric dentist and co-founder of a successful private practice, Lezli serves on several boards that help to impact access to oral health care for children. She is also a member of the board of advisors and contributing expert for Parents magazine. Lezli and her husband Chris live in New Jersey with their five daughters. As a fervent food enthusiast, Lezli would attend new restaurant openings around the country, visit a new restaurant once a week and plan her schedule around pop-ups, stagings and high profile gastronomic events. Throughout her experience as a gastronome, she noticed a lack of representation of chefs of color in the upper echelons of culinary culture. To address this void, she created and curated The Iconoclast Dinner Experience (IDE). The IDE began as one dinner hosted at the legendary James Beard House in 2015, it has evolved into series of signature events that take place in Chicago and New York City broadening the conversation to include the diverse voices from throughout the globe contributing to culinary culture. Since it's inception the IDE has raised over $60,000 for Spelman College students from Jamaica and sub-Saharan African countries. Lezli is thrilled and honored to be able to combine two things she is passionate about, gastronomy and her alma mater. She looks forward to the continued growth of the IDE and bringing it various cities both nationally and internationally.
