WHY SHE IS AMAZING: Lauren Michele Jackson is a critic and scholar living in Chicago. She is a Mellon fellow and PhD candidate in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago, completing research on 20th and 21st century black aesthetics. Her first book, a collection of critical essays on race and appropriation entitled White Negroes, is forthcoming from Beacon Press in the fall. Her work may be found in The Best American Food Writing 2018 along with The Atlantic, The New Yorker, and New York magazine’s Vulture, among other places.
